Birth Wisdom & Pelvic Floor

Just like a women’s heart knows how to pump, her lungs to fill with air, and her hand to pull back from fire, so her body knows how to birth.”

- Virginia Di Orio

What sparked the passion…

I have always held a deep appreciation for infants and an enduring fascination with pregnancy and childbirth. Discovering the intricacies of the female body and how it has been wondrously designed to bring forth life has only deepened my passion. It is remarkable how women possess the incredible ability to create and nurture life. As I delved into the profound beauty of the female body, I also became increasingly aware of the numerous women who have experienced trauma and harm during what should be a natural and empowering process. This realization has ignited a strong desire within me to seek further knowledge and work towards helping women ignite the God-given strength within them.

Birth Wisdom typically refers to the knowledge, understanding, and expertise related to the process of childbirth. It encompasses a broad range of information about pregnancy, labor, delivery, and postpartum care. This wisdom may include insights into the physiological, emotional, and cultural aspects of childbirth, as well as different approaches to labor and birthing practices.

What is Birth Wisdom?

It’s a spiritual wisdom that is connected to our God-given design. Through the understanding of this wisdom, comes the ignited womanly strength that we never knew we carried until the time of childbirth.

The pelvic floor is the root of our entire body, an oval shaped bowl or hammock of interwoven muscles seated in the pelvis that support organs in the lower part of pelvis. There are 3-4 layers of the strands of muscles working together, specifically supporting the bladder, uterus, rectum, and vagina. It helps control urination and bowel movements, and plays a role in sexual function.

What is the Pelvic Floor?

Problems with the pelvic floor can lead to issues like incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse, and pelvic pain. It’s a sacred space in body as it’s functions are to create life, and birth life.

Pelvic Floor & Pregnancy

While many women are aware that the pelvic floor plays a significant role in pregnancy, what they don't realize is that our pelvic floor is the sacred foundation for our bodies.

The pelvic floor is sacred because it’s what creates life, and gives life.

Your breath is a gift…

The diaphragm and pelvic floor flow together when we breathe.

Your breath is 85% of your birth.

When you inhale, the diaphragm and pelvic floor release and drop. When you exhale, the diaphragm and pelvic floor lift.

This is called Softening.

Softening is to prepare yourself for the resting periods you will have in between contractions. Being in a more relaxed state in between contractions can fasten your body to open up with less pain.

Softening during labor:

  • scan your body and notice any areas that are tense.

  • a softened jaw comes an opened cervix.

Softening in labor

The ability to soften during labor into what is, allows you to step into your full power that will serve you well in childbirth and your life.

“When you can embrace your feminine powers-such as intuition, emotional connection, and fluidity-you will be standing in your full power.” - Julia Piazza

It’s time to ignite the God-given power within.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. 2 Timothy 1:7

During labor, the most precious gift is the art of mindful breathing. It unlocks our inner strength, connecting us to our baby and offering control. This breath-movement harmony reveals our natural birthing rhythm, providing support through the contractions.

Breathing on top of contractions allows yourself to open up space in the pelvic floor and not dwell on what you can’t control. Pain and contractions are normal. You can’t control the pain, but you can control your breath.

Why our breath matters…

Your breath is primal.

Birth wisdom is bringing back the primal state In the birth room and sacred space.

“It’s more painful to avoid the pain.”

my friend spoke these words to me and it really struck me when I was going through a time of grief, doing everything to feel at ease, but only piling my emotions away. The same goes for childbirth, you’ll never have a way around the natural pain, but it’s all for a greater purpose.

Childbirth is truly a sacred and empowering experience that is created to be beautiful. Even in the pain.
